Craft Beer StartUp - Tokyo Taproom - SAKAMICHI Brewery | Matthew Boynton

Matthew Boynton hails from the UK, now co-founder of Sakamichi (steep road) Brewery with his cycling buddy. The taproom is in the Tachikawa area of Tokyo, Japan. Watch the Video of our talk here.

Matthew has a great sense of humor and it was an insightful talk on running a startup during the Covid19 slow-down, the ups and downs and legalese of craft beer in Japan, as well as choosing more sustainable operation options.

The reusable kegs, BYO refills of growlers, supporting local economy, eateries and businesses, as well as looking for ways to put spent malt back into nature are all important ways to reduce the impact on the environment, while supporting the local economy. I was also glad to hear that his brewery doesn't use the fish gut filtering process and is plantbased.
