Since 2003, Kamikatsu town is the most proactive zero-waste community in Japan. Thanks to the efforts of the ZeroWaste Academy NPO and local activists like Terumi Azuma (one of the INOW cofounders), and Akira Sakano, Kamikatsu has become world-famous as a sustainable community.
