Life of an English Buddhist Priest in Rural Japan - talking with Victoria Yoshimura

Victoria Yoshimura is originally from Peterborough, England in the UK, originally came to work in Kyushu as a JET in the early 1990's and has stayed in the area ever since. She has lived and worked as a Buddhist priest at Shonenji temple in Miyazaki for many years working alongside her head priest husband who has inherited the temple responsibilities through his bloodline. Shonenji Temple has a history longer than 400 years.

Victoria is breaking barriers as a woman and as a non-Japanese woman working as a priest, designing and decorating the facilities and lodge, as well as teaching and raising a family.

The Shonenji temple is in a beautiful area of Japan near Mt.Aso and stunning natural scenery and hot-springs to enjoy. Victoria recommended some of the beautiful sights in the area in addition to sharing the beautiful design of her temple lodge which was perfect for #traveltuesday
