Eco-House & Garden Akiya Remodel Near Lake Biwa | Iain Davey

Iain Davey and his wife bought a disused "Akiya" pension near beautiful Lake Biwa and did a "half-build" renovation by installing insulation, sky-light, open-kitchen, pantry, gardens, pond, areas for the goats and chickens, compost toilet, rain catchment systems, solar PV panels and a green roof on their shed. They imported products and materials from the UK and US that weren't available in Japan, but also used a lot of local materials, companies, and workpeople as well. They have created a beautiful family home next to beautiful Lake Biwa in Japan that is comfortable and helps them live a more ethical, sustainable lifestyle.
